The Purdue Extension/ 4-H Fund was established in the ACCF in 2002 and created to provide support to 4-H and Purdue Extension related organizations at the discretion of the Adams County Extension Board.

Today 4-H is the largest informal education program for young people in the United States.  With the slogan, 'Learn by Doing', young people across American learn leadership, citizenship and life skills through projects and activities.

In 2024, the Indiana 4-H Youth Development program celebrated 100 years of helping our young citizens develop into caring, competent, confident, and contributing individuals.  Since 1924, 4-H has reached some 300,000 young people in Indiana -35% of all Indiana youth in grades 3-12.

It's a goal of the committee to provide added programs; assistance, or equipment to promote programs to support successful experiences with 4-H youth.  This fund is also used for scholarships for the students recognized during the 4-H Fair.  This financial recognition is awarded to the distinguished ambassadors.  This scholarship has awarded 17 Royal Ambassador scholarships over several years.  It is the goal of the committee to present one or multiple awards per year.  For a student to be eligible they must have been a 4-H member in their last year of 4-H eligibility with a minimum of seven years of active 4-H participation.  They must intend to earn a degree at an accredited college, university, trade, or technical school.  Details can be obtained at the Purdue Extension office.

It is noted however, 4-H is only one of four program areas of Purdue Extension.  These are Agriculture and Natural Resources/ Consumer and Family Sciences / 4-H Youth / Economic and Community Development.

The 4-H program relies on the hundreds of dedicated volunteers and leaders - many who have worked with the programs for decades.  If you wish to help the Purdue Extension programs, volunteer or provide financial support, please call 260-724-5322 or go to their website: www.extension.purdue.edu/county/adams for more information.
