The Linn Grove Quarry/ Meshberger Bros has been operating in Wells County since 1874 when David Meshberger began quarrying stone from the Wabash River in Linn Grove.  Demand for stone increased over time in proportion to the increase in road construction.  Eventually, the operation moved from the Wabash River site to a 100 acre nearby field and by 1922, the plant was turning out 500 tons of crushed limestone per day, aided by advancements in mining technologies.  As demand intensified, the quarry grew, employing many locals from the community.  In 2012, US Aggregates acquired the operation.  The plant currently produces materials for INDOT and ODOT and the majority of materials quarried there are used by local counties and in local concrete production.

Meshberger Brothers Scholarship was established in 1998, when the Meshberger / LICA Fund was transferred into the Adams County Community Foundation when there was a very lucrative $1 for $1 match sponsored by Lilly Endowment.  This fund was initially established so that one scholarship would be awarded to a student from each school in Adams County on a rotation.

With the growth of this fund, and the generous additional contributions made by the Meshberger Corporation, in 2003 the fund had grown large enough to award one scholarship to a senior in each school district (three each year).  In 2014, with the growth of this fund the Meshberger Brothers / LICA Scholarship has awarded multiple scholarships to students from each of the three schools every year.

Since 2005, Meshberger Brothers Scholarship has been awarded to over 100 students.  Since 2024, six seniors were awarded this scholarship.  Two from each Adams County School.

Eligibility requirements for this scholarship is that the student has association with a Meshberger / LICA employee (present/ past) and/or is majoring in engineering.

Students should be proud to receive this award as it recognizes the student's lineage (if they are associated with a Meshberger /LICA employee) or their determination to major in engineering.

Local residents should be proud to know that the Meshberger / LICA company is still showing great support for our community through educating our youth and showing support for families.
