Scott was born on May 6, 1959, and passed away at the young age of 35 on June 12,1994 in a tragic vehicle accident.
The Scott Mathys Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in 1997 by many of his friends of the Berne community to honor the memory of Scott.
A graduate of South Adams High School, Scott had been an avid student of prehistoric and historic Adams County. The scholarship is awarded to a South Adams graduating senior who emulates Scott's life.
This scholarship is administered by the committee as identified by the founders of the fund: Adams County Community Foundation and the committee members of the librarians of Geneva and Berne libraries, a representative of the Swiss Heritage Society.
