Fund Est. 2002Jim and Judy (Casper) Howenstine started True Value Hardware,
formerly known as the Coast to Coast store, in 1972 in the Decatur Plaza Shopping Center on the north edge of Decatur. Growing the company to three locations (Decatur, Wabash, and Huntington) and to 12 employees, they also offer rental services.
Sadly, Jim passed away in April 2013, but Judy continues to call Decatur her home. Jim and Judy were blessed with three children: Jenna Enyeart, Brian, and Brad Howenstine.
In addition to providing commerce for the Adams County residents, Jim and Judy also showed their support to the community by providing time, talent, and treasure. Judy has served with the Caylor-Nickel Foundation, Adams/Wells Crisis Center, Decatur Chamber of Commerce, Boys and Girls Club, North Adams Arts Council, and Rotary Club, while Jim served with the First State Bank, Tru Serv Board of Directors, Decatur Optimist Club, Safety Park Committee, and Decatur Optimists Club. As a 1965 graduate of Rose Hulman with a BS in Electrical Engineering, Jim served as an instructor of applied economics with the Jr. Achievement and was a member of the Adams County Community Foundation while serving on the Grants and Operations Committees.
The grant generated from this fund will provide support for the many areas of Jim & Judy Howenstine's interests. Organizations such as the Adams / Wells Crisis Center and Decatur Chamber of Commerce have benefited from this generous community grant.
