Katelyn Ann Gilbert
Scholarship Fund
Katelyn Ann Gilbert was born May 10th, 2010 at the Ohio State University Medical Center. Upon entering the world, Katelyn was faced with a tough challenge. She was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS); the left side of her heart was not developed. She would need three heart surgeries by the age of two.
Katelyn did not let this rare condition define who she was. She underwent surgery at just four days old and was determined to fight the circumstances. Katelyn was a very strong-willed individual. She taught numerous people the value of life, love, and happiness.
She was a beautiful baby with a full head of dark curls, and just looking at her would put a smile on your face and bring tears to your eyes.
Sadly, Katelyn passed away on June 25th, 2010. She is survived by her parents, Doug and Katrina (Minnich) Gilbert of Monroe and a sister Addison. During her short six-week stay here on earth, she touched the hearts of countless people. She is now in heaven with her complete heart.
Each year a Katelyn Gilbert Scholarship will be presented to a South Adams or Adams Central graduate, who is on-track or planning to attend college the coming fall majoring in a healthcare / medical field. We hope that someday these individuals may be able to help or care for a child like Katelyn.
