Mr. and Mrs. Feasel retired in 1985 with over 70 years of teaching between them. Mrs. Leona (Trump) Feasel began teaching at Northwest Elementary in Decatur when the school was built in 1955. She taught fourth grade for a total of 36 years before her retirement. Mr. Hubert Feasel taught art, having received his Masters degree through Ball State. Prior to teaching in the North Adams school district, Mr. Feasel also taught at Goshen, Rennsalaer, and Adams Central. Mr. Feasel was the Fine Arts Department Chairman at the Decatur and Bellmont High Schools for many years.
The couple enjoyed teaching so much that their scholarship fund was set up specifically to help North Adams students.
In 1985, the first year the scholarship was awarded, two NA recipients were chosen for the award: one pursuing an art vocation and one an education major. Since that time, this award has alternated between the two majors each year.
