Adams County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund
The Adams County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary was organized in September of 1978. The goals and functions of the Auxiliary were to organize and execute fundraising activities, perpetuate and enhance a pleasant atmosphere for patients and be responsive and responsible to the Hospital Board.
The leadership for this organization was provided by hospital board members. The organization of service activities was coordinated by the co-chairpersons of adult volunteers and the chairperson of youth volunteers. The Auxiliary did various activities around the hospital which included taking photographs of newborns, VIP dinners for new parents, gift cart, telecare, escort service (to and from x-ray), the information desk and a monthly newsletter for the patients. The creation of the chapel on the third floor of the hospital at that time was the most significant accomplishment during the first year. This became a reality with the combined efforts of the Auxiliary and other interested patrons throughout the county.
The Adams County Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund in the ACCF was established in 1998 by the Adams County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary which is now disbanded. This fund was initiated to promote higher learning in the health-related field and to ensure that a scholarship will be awarded in perpetuity.
In 1998, the Adams County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Fund was transferred into the Adams County Community Foundation when there was a very lucrative $1 for $1 match sponsored by the Lilly Endowment. This fund was initially established so that one scholarship would be awarded to a student from each school in Adams County on a rotation. With the Foundation's prudent investments and the growth of this fund, there are multiple scholarships awarded to students from each of the three schools every year.
