Eric Richard Mies 41, from Chicago, died Thursday, October 11, in a tragic accident in Cancun, Mexico. He was the youngest son of Dick & Gwen Mies, born in Decatur, Indiana on September 28, 1971. On June 19, 2010, he married Katie Elizabeth Czelatdko, of Cederburg, Wisconsin, whom he had met in Chicago, shortly before his father died in 2008.
Eric graduated in 1990 from Adams Central where he participated in football and baseball. He later graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, with a degree in Computer Science. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.

During all of his teen years, he assisted his parents at Villa Lanes. During the summers of his college years, he worked with his brother, Michael at Technical Restoration Services, Inc., in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. After college, he later had positions at Price-Waterhouse in Chicago, Paramount Farms in San Francisco, Foremost Farms in Baraboo, Wisconsin, Dairy Gold in Seattle, Deloitte Consulting in Sydney, Australia. He also founded and managed ConstructOne, an Australian internet based company. At the time of his death, he was a partner at Rolta/Tusc in Chicago.
Eric loved to travel. Traveling to places from India to Australia, he kept his parents eager to go to the mail box to retrieve postcards from his latest adventure.

In the spirit of travel and adventure, this fund was set up by family and friends to memorialize Eric Mies.  While on a vacation in Cancun with his young wife, pleasure and excitement turned to tragedy and heartbreaking consequences.  Through this fund, Eric’s love of travel and adventure will continue for students of his alma mater: Adams Central.
