Est. 2005
Currently, there are 25 volunteer firemen with nine paid full time employees. The area covered is 81 square miles (encompassing the city of Decatur and four townships).
In addition to fighting fires and following their oath to protect and service, the volunteer firemen and the Decatur Volunteer Fire Department auxiliary (spouses of fire dept personnel) sponsor fundraisers each year. These funds are used to fulfill their mission: to serve the community.
In addition, they have established one of the newest funds in the Adams County Community Foundation: The Decatur Volunteer Fire Department.
This endowed fund is used as an annual scholarship award. Students who have documented community association are invited to apply for this annual scholarship.
